THE VIETNAM’S LONGEST LIVING WOMAN IS THE WORLD’S LONGEST LIVING WOMAN
It’s not a legend. It’s the evident truth in Vietnam where has many healthy people being over 100 years old. Especially, one of them is Mrs. Nguyen Thi Tru who was born in 1893 (122 years old) was recognized as “The longest living woman in Vietnam and Asia” by Vietnam Book of Records and Asia Book of Records.
Mrs. Nguyen Thi Tru lives in Da Phuoc Commune, Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. She has been living during 3 centuries (19th, 20th, 21th) with the age which is so rare in our life – 122 years old. This is really a great honour for her family and Vietnam. Formerly, the World’s longest living woman is Mrs. Misao Okawa (117 years old) in Japan. But so sorry that she passed away on April 1st 2015.
Vietnam Book of Records representatives visited Mrs. Tru at her house in a small alley in 5 Hamlet, Da Phuoc Commune, Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City in the noon. When we came, she was lieing in the hammock. She gave us a warm greeting with the gentle smile.
With small stature, she wears a set of “ba ba” ( the specific clothes of South Vietnamese Women). Her short silver hair and her shriveled face still express the gentle and naivete nature of Vietnamese Women. Although she is 122 years old, her eyes are still flexible. Especially, she usually smiles.
She has 11 chilren at all (3 sons and 8 daughters) but only 2 children still alive. They are over 80 years old. Mrs. Nguyen Thi Ba (76 years old) is her youngest daughter-in-law. She takes care Mrs. Tru with all of her piety and respect. Mrs. Tru’s grandchild also often visit her.
Mrs.Nguyen Thi De (82 years old), the eighth daughter of her said that Mrs. Tru likes cakes and milk so much. She often eats a bowl of meat gruel for breakfast, half rice bowl with soft meat, fish, vegetables for lunch and the same dishes above for dinner. Between her three main meals, there are milk, fruits or cakes. And she has lived with her children and grandchild so many years.
Mrs. De said that Mrs. Tru doesn’t remember any memory in the past now. She also said “ In olden times, my parents are farmers purely”.
At that time, everyday, Mrs. Tru was taking care of a plot near her house with her husband. After every crop, she went netting fishes, gathered cattails or vegetables for food or to sell. It was this nature-friendly lifestyle to keep her refreshing and free of worry. The meals of Mrs. Trù family are always foods which are produced and prepared by the labour of family's member, such as: rice from family's field, vegetables from family's garden and fishes from the river… Because of that, Mrs. Trù rarely catches a disease and her health is always kept in a good condition by the habit of working every day.
According to Mrs. Ba (Mrs. Tru's youngest daughter-in-law), the most important secret of Mrs. Tru's long life is her purified, generous and non-jealous mentality. It helps her to live a serene life, in which she has never been greedy for anything. She also never thinks about sumptuous things and money or treasure is only belongings so she always feels peaceful and calm in her heart.
It is said by her children that when she was young, she was a sturdy country girl and she was able to work as hard as strong porters carrying goods at ports or depots. Immersing in the working and fighting atmosphere of the country at that time, she joined in building tunnels and cooking to support liberation soldiers. Now she is 122 years old but she still has many teeth left, some was eroded but the roots of those teeth are remaining. One more special thing about Mrs. Trù is that she has never gone to hospital because of critical illnesses.
Mrs. Tru's neighbors have some comments that she lives in harmony with every people and they have never seen Mrs. Trù quarrel with anyone. Her children and grandchildren have a great solidarity and they always love and help each other. Maybe, thanks to simple things like love and tenderness, she has a long and healthy life with her family until now.
Having a long life like Mrs. Trù is a favour which is given to few people. She has been living through 3 centuries (19th, 20th and 21th) with an optimistic spirit, a lucid mind, a lot of living experiences and many great qualities that she has strived for, cultivated and accumulated during her life.
After being recognized as Vietnam's record and Asia's record, the good news about the recognition of World Record Association to Mrs. Trù world record "The oldest living woman in the world" which was nominated by Vietnam Book of Records has brought the joy to the Vietnamese record holders’ community, Ho Chi Minh City's people and Vietnam's people. It is expected that the representative of World Record Association will make a trip to Vietnam in June, 2015 to directly hand the world record certificate to Mrs. Trù, following the plan of Vietnam Book of Records.
This is a precious and meaningful gift Vietnam Book of Records gives to the city that was named after Uncle Hồ. It is because Mrs. Tru, the woman holding the world record of longest living, is a civilian of Ho Chi Minh City for her whole life.
