The Asia largest monolithic bronze statue of King - Monk Tran Nhan Tong

The new statue of King-Monk Tran Nhan Tong was made monolithic bronze, weighs 139 tonnes and is 10 meters high. It was placed in the An Ky Sinh Square on Yen Tu Mountain, about 1,000m above sea level. Hanoi Construction Fine Art Co., Ltd. executed this statue.  

Tran Nhan Tong was born on November 11 of lunar calendar 1258 as Tran Kham, the first son of the Emperor Tran Thanh Tong and the third king of the Tran dynasty, ascended the throne when he was just 21. Tran Nhan Tong was smart and studious. It was said that he read all the books in the royal palace, and understood their Buddhist and worldly teachings. He fought many wars during his reign. With the unity of the Vietnamese people, he led the resistance forces and twice, drove back the Mongolian invaders (1285- 1288). Then Tran Nhan Tong yielded the kingship to his son Tran Anh Tong in 1293. 

 

In 1299, Tran Nhan Tong entered the monkhood at Yen Tu Mountain, where he practiced strictly as an ascetic and took the name of Huong Van Dai Dau Da – meaning “A Great Ascetic of Fragrant Clouds” and with namely Dieu Ngu Giac Hoang in later years.

 

On the first day of Lunar New Year Mau Than (1308) Tran Nhan Tong Dieu Ngu Giac Hoang, in his 51 years of age, delegated to Venerable Phap Loa to take over pogoda and attaining of Nirvana at Ngoa Van temple.

From December 1 to December 3, 2013, a ceremony to commemorate the 705th anniversary of the attainment of Nirvana of King-Monk Tran Nhan Tong with the inaugural of the Statue of King-Monk Tran Nhan Tong was held at Yen Tu Mountain in northeastern Quang Ninh.

On February 9 (or the tenth day of the first lunar month), the 2014 Yen Tu Spring Festival officially kicked off on the foot of Yen Tu mountain in Uong Bi city, Quang Ninh province. The statue of King Tran Nhan Tong, which was recognized as: “the largest monolithic bronze statue Tran Nhan Tong King” by the Vietnam Book of Records.This event have attracted thousands of pilgrims flocked to the pagoda for the event to pray for a lucky and peaceful new year.

On March 22, 2014, the largest monolithic bronze statue Tran Nhan Tong King was recognized Asia Record by Asia Book of Records in the 27th Meeting Vietnam Holder.
