Published 10 records of Hoang Sa, Truong Sa archipelagoes

The Vietnam Book of Records on Thursday, May 30, 2014  announced the list of ten national records, most of which are related to Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) and Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelagoes in the East Vietnam Sea.

The announcement was made on the occasion of the Vietnam Sea and Island Week 2014, which will last from June 1 to 8, during which various activities will take place nationwide, contributing to the affirmation and protection of Vietnam’s sovereignty over its seas and islands.

The ten records are as follows.

First record: Hoang Sa and Truong Sa are two Vietnamese archipelagoes that have the most different names compared to other Vietnamese islands. These names include Hoang Sa, Truong Sa, Van Ly Truong Sa, Dai Truong Sa, Cat (Kat) Vang, and Con Vang.

Second record: Hoang Sa and Truong Sa are two Vietnamese archipelagoes that are the largest, longest, widest and farthest and have the highest number of rock islands in the country.  

Third record: Hoang Sa and Truong Sa are two Vietnamese archipelagoes that have been featured most frequently in old maps of Vietnam as well as the world.

Fourth record: Hoang Sa Festival is the only folk festival of olden times that depicts the difficulties, hardships and bravery of Vietnamese soldiers who safeguarded Vietnam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa.
The festival is annually organized in Hoang Sa Temple, Ly Son District, central Quang Ngai Province on the 20th day of the second month of the lunar calendar. 



Fifth record: The Vietnamese book on national emblems and borders that compiles the highest number of ancient and modern maps of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa. The record was recognized in 2013 and the author of the book is researcher Nguyen Dinh Dau.

Sixth record: Dr. Nguyen Nha, a well-known Vietnamese researcher on history and geography, is the person whose research works on Vietnam’s Hoang Sa and Truong Sa are translated into English the most.

Seventh record: The movie director who has made the most documentaries and feature films dedicated to Vietnamese land, people, seas, and islands is Nguyen Van Luong. This record was set up in 2012.  

Eighth record: The longest piece of silk on which a poem is written. This artwork is on display at Truong Sa Island District Traditional House, and the poem is titled “Tổ quốc nhìn từ biển” (Fatherland Seen from the Sea) by Nguyen Viet Chien.



Ninth record: The boat captain and musician who composes the most songs with the theme of islands and seas. The record was established in 2013 and its holder is musician Ton Huy.

Tenth record: The song on seas and islands that won the two highest music awards at the same time presented by the Vietnam Musicians Association and the Ho Chi Minh City Music Association. This song is titled “Tổ quốc gọi tên mình” (Motherland Calls Our Names) by Dinh Trung Can.
