Centenarian World Record Nomination 4: Mrs Nguyen Thi Tru, Vietnam: Oldest Woman in the World

(Records) A MOTHER of 11 is claiming to be the world's oldest person and has documents which proves she is 121-years-old.

Mrs Nguyen Thi Tru

Nguyen Thi Tru has lived through two world wars and seen the globe and her home country of Vietnam change beyond recognition.

She said her secret to living a long life is staying optimistic and helping other people feel "relaxed and happy".

Mrs Tru has an ID card which says her birthday is May 4 1893, meaning she was born the same year as British composer Ivor Novello and US sex symbol Mae West.

First World War poet Wilfred Owen, Chinese communist revolutionary Mao Tse-tung and leading Nazi member Hermann Göring were also born in 1893.

The Vietnam Records Organisation plan to ask Guinness World Records to recognise Mrs Tru as the oldest person in the world.

The organisation currently records the oldest living person as Misao Okawa from Japan, who has been documented as 116 years old.

However, earlier this month, a former son of Brazilian slaves was claimed to be the world's oldest person ever at 126 years old.

Jose Aguinelo dos Santos has a birth certificate recording his date of birth as July 7 1888.

The old people's home where Mr Dos Santos lives, in Bauru, Brazil, is hoping provide conclusive evidence that he is the world's oldest person through 'Carbon-14' dating.

Currently, the world's oldest person ever is officially Frenchwoman Jeanne Calment, who was born in 1875 and died in the town of Arles in 1997 at the age of 122.

But, if her claim is verified, Mrs Tru could soon be ruled to be world's oldest woman alive today.

Mrs Tru said: "My secret to staying healthy is keeping a good diet, not skipping meals, staying optimistic and helping other people to feel relaxed and happy."

Only four of Mrs Tru's children are still alive and she lives with her son Nguyen Huu Phuong, 74, and his family. Her husband died in 1963.

Her son added that the supercentenarian can eat anything and is healthier than women much younger than her.

Mrs Tru has been given a certificate by The Vietnam Book of Records recognising her as the oldest living person in the country and confirming her birth date.

The officials are preparing to submit Mrs Tru's papers to the Asia Book of Records and the Guinness World Records.

Mrs Tru said: "I had 11 children, but now my youngest son and my daughter-in-law take care for me.

"I am very pleased and happy so long as I live."
